Toadshade Trillium or Red Trillium

Not to be mistaken for Stinking Benjamin which is also referred to as Red Trillium.

  1. On May 6 at Van Patten Woods, an IL Lake County Forest Preserve a few miles south of the Wisconsin border, on the 1.8 mile “yellow” trail, hundreds of red trillium could be seen from the path. Also in bloom were wild geraniums, white trillium, and mayapple. Garlic mustard is also thriving there, and a “pull” needs to be organized to save those trilliums!
